Box is situated amidst numerous cafes, restaurants and pop-up shops that boast a variety of delicious, locally-produced food and drink. Whether in Minchinhampton, Amberley, Nailsworth or Stroud, there are many to choose from, all of which are within good walking distance.

As an example, Henry’s Cafe in Minchinhampton is a great spot for lunch and a coffee, offering their own organic dairy produce, cakes and sandwiches. Nailsworth Market is known for having mouth-watering foods on offer on the last Saturday every month, from 9am-2:30pm. Not forgetting the tiny brewery, Nailsworth Brewery, as well! There is also a large award-winning local farmers’ market in Stroud every Saturday, 9am – 2pm.

  • Minchinhampton

    Minchinhampton

    Minchinhampton is our nearest town, about one mile away (15-20 min walk), and has a range of shops to discover, including a fantastic butcher, an ward-winning cheese and dairy shop, a newsagent and general store, an Italian restaurant, post office, Boots chemist and several other small retail outlets. Not to mention the Crown pub - a local favourite!

    Minchinhampton has a Market House which is open every Wednesday morning from 08:45 to 11am for the Country Market to sell local produce.

  • Nailsworth

    Nailsworth

    Nailsworth is another old market town nearby and lies at the bottom of one of the surrounding valleys, about one mile by road (25-30min walk). The town has recently grown in popularity with discerning shoppers and now offers an exceptional choice of quality retail outlets such as a delicatessen which sells the finest fresh fish, an award- winning independent baker, two butchers’ shops, quality pubs and restaurants as well as a small hotel built in a former corn mill. There are also two traditional hardware shops, a florist, hairdressers and several other quality outlets as well as two supermarkets serving both local residents and Nailsworth’s increasing number of visitors.

  • Cirencester

    The old Roman town of Cirencester, which was named Corinium by the Romans, is seven miles east of Box and offers an interesting and attractive town to visit.

    Often considered the capital of the Cotswolds, considered by many to be one of the most beautiful areas in England, is an ideal destination for a day out. The town is full of tastefully restored courtyards, bespoke shops, gallery filled alleyways and lovely old streets. There are many places to visit and sites to enjoy, including city walks, parks, and a Roman Amphitheatre.

  • About Stroud

    Stroud

    A little further a field is Stroud, a ten minute drive from Box. It is a larger town offering more conventional facilities such as DIY stores, a multi-screen cinema, tenpin bowling alley, leisure centre and several large supermarkets. Its weekly farmers’ market has set a national gold standard for lovers of both regional and organic produce.

  • Cheltenham and Gloucester

    Cheltenham & Gloucester

    For city shopping, Gloucester, named Glevum by the Roman Glevums, is 12 miles away and has a great selection of retail outlets and parks to explore.

    Cheltenham, with its famous Promenade shopping street, Festivals and horse racing, is about 18 miles and boasts a great night out. Both fantastic cities in their own right and well worth a visit!

  • Bristol & Bath

    Bristol & Bath

    The South West’s capital city, Bristol is 30 miles away by road but offers almost every facility including a convenient and thriving airport.

    The Georgian spa city of Bath Spa, is a similar distance and deservedly continues to act as a magnet for tourists and shoppers in search of something a little different to the rest.

Walks


Box, being an area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB), offers a vast array of walks. OS Maps and Minch Walks both offer details on routes to take. Some offer 30-mins to 3hr walks which includes Easy and moderately challenging terrain, for which some you will need waterproof footwear (even in dry weather). The routes will disclose whether they are suitable for dogs.

Box Nature Reserve


Box Woods and Nature Reserve supports more than 450 different species, some 58 of which are protected. Take a look at Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust’s website to see what animals you can spot. Box Woods visitors regularly see foxes nestling in the fields and wandering deers.
